The project Earthbound reinterprets the axis of Sağancı Village as a guiding element, shaping the site in three dimensions to generate interconnected spaces and define the architectural form. The design integrates local materials, rhythmic structural elements, and a courtyard-based layout, fostering a seamless dialogue between visitors, workers, and historical heritage.
Earthbound Axis & Spatial Formation: The project is structured around the axis of the Sağancı Village, shaping the site in three dimensions to create functional spaces and building forms.
Rhythmic Column Arrangement & Roof Continuity: A systematic post-beam timber framing structure establishes a rhythmic arrangement of columns, forming a continuous roof design. These roofs create adjacent semi-open spaces and guide visitors through their cantilevered extensions.
Courtyard & Spatial Organization: The layout incorporates the traditional courtyard and squaring system to define the building arrangement. Centralization of the courtyard enhances visitor engagement, creating a shared space for both workers and tourists, fostering interaction despite distinct functional zones.
Pomace Workshop Integration: A dedicated pomace workshop serves as a unifying element, harmonizing the various facilities within the project.
Materiality & Sustainability: Timber framing is utilized as the primary load-bearing system, while rammed earth walls serve as a double-skin element, reinforcing local identity and ecological sensitivity. The integration of local materials ensures harmony with the site's historic context.
