The Tropical Kingdom is a modern pavilion in the Brno Zoo, which offers visitors a unique experience
from the tropical world.
The building is designed as a single-storey building with underground facilities for the employees. The structure is reinforced concrete, composed of walls and columns with a roof supported by elegant glulam trusses. Inside, the pavilion houses a variety of tropical animals, including crocodiles, armadillos, anteaters, small monkeys and exotic birds. The grounds also include a restaurant overlooking the exhibit and a gift shop. The pavilion is conveniently accessible by cable car, which connects the main entrance of the zoo to this new attraction.
The subject of the proposal is the new construction of the Tropical Kingdom Pavilion in the Brno Zoo. The main purpose of the building is to create a modern space for the exposition of tropical animals and at the same time to offer visitors an attractive environment with educational, recreational and gastronomic functions. The pavilion serves as a background for breeding and presentation of species such as crocodiles, armadillos, anteaters, small monkeys, tropical birds and other animals. The facility also includes a restaurant and a gift shop.
The pavilion is situated in the central part of the zoo and is connected to the main visitor routes. Transportation is provided by a newly designed cable car that leads directly from the main entrance of the zoo. The building fits harmoniously into the park and natural composition of the surroundings, while its location respects the natural pedestrian flows and view axes.
The supporting structure is reinforced concrete, combined with wooden glued trusses supporting the roof structure. The façade is clad with wooden vertical cladding made of acacia slats. The roof is flat, with integrated skylights. The internal walls and partitions are designed in lightweight partitions with a suitable surface for wet environments.
