Project idea

To design a state-of-the-art convention center in Chennai using innovative steel construction
techniques that exemplify sustainability, functionality, and architectural excellence, while serving
as a dynamic space for diverse events. To integrate steel into the project's design at multiple levels, from primary structure to building envelope and tectonic details.

Project description

The structure focuses on the use of steel members and beams, while maintaining the usefulness of spaces and maximizing their comfort.

Technical information

Steel I beams and columns have been used for the exhibition and convention halls. The top of these spaces is covered by a double layered Barrell vault. Mushroom columns can be seen in the lobby spaces - these are used to support the convergence of both vaults - one coming from the multi leveled car parking and the other vault from the convention hall. The vault extends over the main entry thus forming a canopy and to support this cantilevering canopy, circular columns are used. Ramps are used accordingly to facilitate the movement of the differently abled. R.C.C columns are used for the back of the house spaces such as storage, loading/ unloading areas, toilets. The auditorium also consists of R.C.C columns.
