Project idea

Bodega Terroir, is a project located in the town of Cachi, 160 km from the capital of Salta, Argentina. Its name "terroir" refers to the special characteristics that the geography, geology and climate of a given place give to certain varieties of grapes, thus reflecting the cultural dimension and the human society that exploits it.
It is a strategic place since it is located in the center of the "NOA wine route", which runs from the city of San Miguel de Tucumán to Jujuy, passing through cities such as Tafi del Valle, Cafayate, among others. Therefore, we looking for to consolidate said route, generating an attractive node, which revalues the city of Cachi.
As for its climate, it has a wide thermal amplitude, which ranges from – 5 to 8 degrees centigrade at night, and from 9 to 23 degrees centigrade during the day, thus favoring grape cultivation, which requires this type of climate, to be able to ripen during the day and stop this process with the cold of the night
As for its location, it is located at 2,531 meters above sea level, which favors the production of wine in height.
The main objective that we propose is that it is not simply a winery, a factory where wines are produced, but rather that it be a winery that has a positive impact at a local and regional level. Starting by promoting tourism, proposing activities to increase overnight stays, since currently cachi has an average tourist stay of one night and, on the other hand, favoring local employment using local labor, emptying jobs for both the construction of the same, as well as for all the tasks that will be carried out once it is finished, such as, for example, wine production, paprika production, administrative tasks, among others.
We believe that, in the long term, Bodega Terroir will become an icon, which will generate recognition of local work that currently represents a structural problem in Cache society and favors the development of the place, positioning Cachi as a competitive node at the regional leve.

Project description

Speaking particularly of the location of the land, it is located in the town of Cachi Adentro, approximately 10 km from the center of Cachi, on the banks of the Trancas river.
Two different accesses were proposed to separate functions: one access for the tourist public and another for heavy traffic (cargo and harvest trucks), thus leaving two main sectors in the winery, separated by the river that runs through it.
They are positioned around two distribution cores, from which linear circulation axes are projected that function as articulators of the entire complex, distributing the functions and taking into account and taking advantage of visuals, lighting, ventilation and different degrees of privacy. As a final to these axes, we propose two viewpoints located in the highest parts of the land, since it has descending levels towards the river.
The tourist tour of the winery begins in the west, with a specific access for this function, reaching the main distribution core, from which public activities will emerge, such as reception, exhibition pavilion, restaurant, and bungalows are proposed to the northwest. , with a higher degree of privacy, and a privileged location with views to the west to contemplate the most outstanding landscape of the place: Los Nevados de Cachi.
Next, we propose a bridge that serves as a link between the two sectors, linking the main distribution nodes.
In this way we arrive at the heart of the productive sector, around which the most pertinent activities to the wine process are located, such as the factory and a tasting room.
The intention of this location is to guarantee the complete route to the heart of the winery, to experience the entire experience of the wine process in Cachi. Seeking to generate sensations through its tours of vineyards, pepper plantations, mirrors of water, aromas, visuals and games of light and shadow.

Technical information

The biggest challenge we had when designing was solving the ceiling of the distribution cores, since due to its dimensions it presents difficulties to solve it in a conventional way. That is why we chose to resolve it with a spatial grid, revealing a compression ring for the large perforation it presents, covering the entire structure with “Super Board” cement plates finished with similar concrete gray paint, which rests on Double T metal columns.
As for the roof of all the buildings, we used coffered ceilings to release the large spans of the columns and generate fluid spaces.
In terms of materiality, we opted to use pigmented concrete in an earth tone and stone partitions, typical of the place, maintaining a neutral range of colors, since due to the size of the project, we want it to blend in with the landscape. and does not generate a negative visual impact.
