Project idea

The project intends to integrate the CDC to its environment through an axis going from side to side of the field It works by joining the section currently disconnected linking the CDC to the main streets and neighboring fields.
From this axis a grid is built integrating the new amphitheater with the existing buildings giving armory to the entire set.
Our intervention is inspired by the type of traditional African spiral-shaped establishment known as "Kraal", a symbol of growth, According to this, the new building is located surrounding the existing amphitheater.
Using a readapted and simplified geometry of the set, is pretended to highlight the amphitheater and to make it an attraction with multiple access points

Project description

The project is located in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, in the current THÉÂTRE POPULAIRE DÉSIRÉ BONOGO CDC

The existing amphitheatre stands out by the structure of great character that surrounds it.
Is accessed by a ramp leading to the highest par of the amphitheater. It becomes, at the same time, a foyer, a walk-side, and coverage for lower construction.

An axis allows the connection and dialogue between the new and the existing. The "refunctionalization" of the Great Studio, currently a library and exhibition hall, marks the importance of this heritage building.

For the materialization, local materials and techniques were chosen, such as soil, and shade generators elements, adapting to the place weather, and responding to sustainable factors.

Technical information

For the materialization of the project, it was decided to use local land as the main material. Giving to the building identity and harmony with the environment.

The skin that surrounds the set acts as an environmental filter. It allows the light to enter but filtering the heat, characteristic of the city of Ouagadougou. It is constructed in wooden slats and separeted two meters from the building's enclosure.

This way, space for circulation is generated, allowing access to the different spaces. Creating the ideal environmental condition to carry out indoor activities without being exposed to weather conditions

The wooden pergola creates shadow, which allows to walk protected from the sun and enjoy outdoor activities.
