Project idea

The idea was to relate the bones of the spine to the walls in a university health clinic. The concept of the spinal cord expanding and contracting based on the pain the body, and relating that to the expansion and contraction of the spaces is the initial design idea.

Project description

To redesign American University of Sharjah health clinic, in which space will aid the patients in the healing process and make the spaces more comfortable for both the doctors and the patients.

Technical information

The plan was to consider the walls in the clinic as individual bones from the spinal cord and create moments of expansion and contraction by bringing the walls closer together or further apart. Most areas of expansion occurred near the facade of the building to allow for maximum sunlight to enter. Contraction occurred in the service spaces such as the storage facilities and the labs, spaces that did not require sunlight.
