Project idea

Dhamrai on the bank of river Bongshi at Dhaka , Bangladesh is a place where metal art and craft ( mostly Hindu deity sculptures and others ) is practicing on by generation . There are some historical buildings which are standing from british period .The artisans of the Dhamrai area practice four traditional handmade processes, lost wax method, clay casting, sand casting and hammering. Among all these, the old wax method is very demanding and practicing only by a handful of artists.History shows that some of the greatest metal craft masterpieces of the ancient time were made here by skilled artisans and sculptors that were magnificent in design. But it is very sad to say the artisans are leaving this job day by day and the craft is going to be extinct . Our moto was to revive the craft practice and let the artisans come back to their work through our DESIGN.

Project description

Basically we designed with integrating the existing buildings where the practice is still going with our designed ones. We designed in a natural setting in such a organic way that our design looks like it merges with the Existing British structures. Our moto was to create a journey through a Hindu environment ( as the whole area is a hindu area ) and learn about their culture .

Technical information

Beside the main road ( from the entry of our site ) there are some British existing historical buildings , we used these buildings as the temporary gallery , Historical experience , cafe , Multipurpose , Some public gathering spaces and other public facilities , then we designed a Museum Complex in a Semi-public zone, definitely controlled which is surrounded to a large courtyard and there's a big banyan tree . This space is a public gathering space . Lastly in the most private space we designed workshop and training center . We designed three separate service roads for Multipurpose , Workshop and Training center .
