In response to the catastrophic August 2021 flood that devastated the site at Yan, Kedah and claimed lives, this Eco-Modular concept proposes architectural healing through sustainable adaption. Integrating modular construction with ecological design principles, the proposal creates resilient, low-impact structures that address both environmental vulnerability and community trauma. The design transform abandoned, flood-damaged remnants into renewed landscape, a testament to collective resilience and a catalyst for social and environmental regeneration.
The project consists of a comprehensive ecological retreat designed for a rural forest setting, featuring a Wellness Center that provides hydrotherapy and massage services, a 2,500 sq. ft. Multipurpose Hall capable of accommodating over 150 guests, and a dedicated Yoga Hut designed with an open floor plan to blur the boundary between indoor and outdoor spaces. The main area is centered around a collection of 15 Suites and 5 Forest Villas, which are standalone, cabin-like structures utilizing a prefabricated "Basic Module" design with a distinctive angular form to harmonize with the mountainous topography.
The development is integrated into the sloping terrain through a network of meandering pathways and elevated timber structures, employing sustainable materials like GLULAM timber beams and recyclable zinc roofing to minimize the carbon footprint while maximizing natural ventilation and lighting.
