The Children’s Creative Centre is a vibrant cultural hub located in Mokattam, designed to serve as a convergence point for technology, art, and play. The project was conceived to address the significant challenges of the site's desert setting and harsh climatic conditions. The primary goal is to transform a site that currently lacks substantial landscaping into a sustainable sanctuary that inspires imagination and learning. By utilising a "Crystalline" architectural concept, the project aims to provide self-shading and thermal comfort, allowing children to explore and grow through interactive experiences despite the environmental difficulties.
The project is divided into four distinct zones or "fingers" to maximise efficient land use. Bridges interconnect the complex, creating a fluid indoor-outdoor experience through strategic massing.
The comprehensive functional program includes:
Educational & Interactive Zones: A Science Centre, VR rooms, a 7D theatre, and a "Mega Class" area.
Arts & Culture: A Puppet Theatre, puppet-making workshops, an Art History Hall, and a dedicated performance hall.
Community & Support: A library with a reading hall, seminar rooms, residential rooms (likely for staff or guests), and a central "Watch Tower" acting as a landmark.
Landscape: The design introduces an amphitheatre and extensive garden features to the previously barren site.
Site Area: 21,216 m².
Form & Orientation: The building masses are oriented to create a 30-degree view axis, optimising the visual connection between interior and exterior spaces.
Climatic Response (Ventilation): Based on sunpath analysis, the facility is designed to capture prevailing winds from the west, utilising natural ventilation to cool the spaces.
Thermal Insulation: The design incorporates walls with significant thickness to achieve heat insulation for inner spaces.
Shading System: The "Crystalline" geometry of the roof and walls is engineered to provide self-shading, ensuring thermal comfort and good natural light quality for users.
Spatial Volume: The "CRYSTAL" elements are utilised to create double-height spaces, enhancing the verticality and grandeur of the interior.
