THE PROJECT OF THE LUTHERAN TEMPLE COMPLEX FOR 200 PEOPLE IN THE CITY OF SEVERODVINSK, ARKHANGELSK REGION

Vadim Bobukh

Idea projektu

The project is a modern Lutheran center in Severodvinsk, designed in a bionic architectural form, where all functional areas are united by a single roof shell. This innovative concept symbolizes the unity of nature and faith, creating a special atmosphere of spirituality and harmony.

Popis projektu

The center includes a main church for 200 people, facilities for educational programs and sunday school, a multifunctional hall for public meetings and cultural events, a library of spiritual literature, social services with consulting rooms, as well as a refectory and a recreation area. The space around the complex is organized as a garden of reflection with places for solitude and personal prayer. The architectural concept is based on two key directions: the horizontal axis reflects the multifunctional use of space — from religious services to social and cultural activities, and the vertical axis demonstrates the levels of interaction — from individual spiritual development to collective service to society. The bionic shape of the building emphasizes the connection with nature, and the use of environmentally friendly materials and modern energy-saving technologies makes the project not only aesthetically unique, but also environmentally responsible.

Technické informace

Structure: The expressive bionic form is achieved using a steel space frame, enabling long spans and structural integrity. Stability in the Northern climate is ensured by a frost-protected pile foundation.
Envelope: The unifying roof "shell" is formed by curved steel structures clad with thermally modified local timber. Roofing features light-coloured PVC/TPO membrane for waterproofing and energy efficiency. Walls are highly insulated frame construction, clad with timber and durable fibre-cement panels, incorporating vertical greenery in select areas.
Glazing: Energy-efficient panoramic windows and glazing (triple-glazed units, low-E coating) with integrated external sun shading.
Ecology & Energy: Priority given to local, renewable (FSC-certified timber), and recycled materials. High-performance thermal insulation. Systems include: geothermal heat pump, ventilation with >85% heat recovery, solar thermal collectors, rainwater harvesting, smart energy management.
Northern Adaptation: Enhanced thermal and wind protection, robust vapour barrier, anti-icing systems for critical details (gutters, entrances).
