Idea projektu

The design concept is rooted in a triad of core values: community, environment, and education. The project aspires to cultivate a space that fosters deep community engagement, honors the distinctive character of the surrounding environment, and promotes a progressive, health-conscious educational atmosphere. This envisioned campus will serve as a beacon for intellectual excellence—an inclusive hub where Zambia’s brightest minds can gather, grow, and thrive. It is not only a place of learning, but a catalyst for social cohesion and collective advancement.

Popis projektu

Community Integration: To weave the local community into the fabric of the project, ensuring it serves as an open, welcoming extension of the surrounding social life.
‏Multi-functionality and Place-making: To position the school as more than just a place of
learning — transforming it into a dynamic social anchor that attracts people, fosters
engagement, and elevates the site's cultural and civic significance.
Environmental Synergy: To embrace the richness of the fertile Zambian landscape,
integrating its natural elements into the heart of the design,
both visually and functionally.
‏Architectural Belonging: To craft a built environment that feels rooted in its context—one
that resonates with the local identity and feels intuitively familiar to both people and place.
‏Interactive Learning Spaces: To establish a learning environment that promotes active engagement, collaboration, and experiential education.
‏Holistic Educational Support: To spatially and architecturally accommodate diverse educational needs, enhancing academic standards through thoughtful, responsive design.

Technické informace

The project integrates a range of technical strategies aimed at environmental performance, durability, and contextual relevance. The exterior façades feature rotating brick walls designed to optimize cross-ventilation while providing passive shading, reducing reliance on mechanical cooling. A comprehensive water management system collects both rainwater and greywater through sloped site grading, directing it to a central reservoir pond. This water is then filtered through a greywater treatment system and reused for non-potable applications, minimizing waste and supporting water sustainability. Instead of conventional cut-and-fill methods, the site design employs gentle slopes to elevate the buildings, reducing excavation and aligning the architecture with the natural topography. For shading, suspended carpets were installed over wooden canopies, offering cultural expression while shielding key areas from solar exposure. The electrical system includes backup generators to prevent power interruptions during school hours. Interior lighting is achieved using LED downlights, selected for their energy efficiency and uniform distribution, avoiding the discomfort and inefficiency of spotlights or fluorescent lighting.
