The aim of the project is to regulate and rethink the transportation hub around Népliget, as well as to develop, design, and utilize the currently empty and underused area next to the railway embankment. A multifunctional transportation hub would be established here. This hub would improve connectivity by introducing a new railway stop along the southern railway line. The goal is to integrate the unused area into the urban fabric, both architecturally and in terms of public transportation. The project aims to encourage local residents and commuters to use public transport by providing efficient transfer points and sufficient parking spaces for park-and-ride and bus users. This strategy will reduce vehicle traffic on Üllői Road and in the city center, contributing to a more sustainable urban environment. Additionally, elevating the railway line will reconnect divided urban areas, making them easily accessible and safe for pedestrians and cyclists. The project also includes new commercial and community spaces, responding to the expected increase in public transport users and local population growth.
This project consists of several interconnected elements. Its main feature is the establishment of a new station along the southern railway line. The commercial development includes a new multi-level shopping center with exciting public spaces on the site of a former gas station. The project also features a well-functioning, welcoming, yet densely built residential complex, designed to be shielded from the noise of the highway and separated from the traffic of Ecseri Road. The area includes strikingly geometric office buildings with internal courtyard terraces. On the other side of Üllői Road, a student city is being developed, characterized by enclosed, shell-like dormitory structures. In front of the railway station, there is a dynamic stepped plaza, where students and young people can relax, socialize, and play. At the edge of the underutilized area, there would be a Waste Management Innovation Center, where lectures, workshops, educational programs, and developments could take place, as a waste processing plant is located on the opposite side of the road.
The new station offers accessible platforms, waiting areas, and integration points designed for buses and bicycles. The public spaces and parks in the area consist of landscaped pathways, featuring sustainable drainage and lighting systems. The new commercial buildings are constructed with modern, multi-story reinforced concrete and steel frame structures, incorporating energy-efficient systems and sustainable design principles. The shopping center features a green façade. Between the residential buildings, there are community gardens, and the buildings themselves are designed with green roofs.
