Kokino is home to a megalithic observatory. Today, the sites potential is not being used as it should and only local tours are given to the location. This project aims to change the current situation and give life to Kokino. Since Macedonia does not have an official astronomical observatory, there is no better place for it to be positioned than near Kokino. The project has the aim to make Kokino a valuable tourist attraction and start a new chapter in the astronomical journey of the country.
Consisting of three main areas, the astronomical observatory, planetarium and hotel, the project seeks to include an activity for everyone, including locals, tourists and of course scientists. The main building hosts the astronomical observatory, the planetarium, a museum, an exhibition area, classes. The functions are divided by floors, as the spaces for social activities are placed on the ground floor, with only the planetarium entrance and a small exhibition area placed on the first floor. The other areas on the first floor are the administrative offices, computer labs, observatory offices, meeting rooms etc. The project scope also includes hotel rooms that are dispersed in a certain from the main building, giving guests the serenity of the starry skies above. A restaurant is also included in the project, in a separate building, thus completing the whole complex. Sufficient parking spaces are provided for the visitors.
By combining several spaces of different character in the building, we achieve the result of making the project attractive to everyone.
In this project, because of the curvy shape, instead of columns and beams, load bearing walls were used.
