Idea projektu

The concept behind our project is to preserve the historical values of the castle and its surrounding landscape as much as possible, while integrating them with the contemporary function and operation of a conference center.

To ensure the site's economic viability and long-term attractiveness, we have proposed a conference center with increased capacity and greater spatial flexibility, designed to meet the needs of Charles University and, potentially, the broader public.

In the castle building, we retain the original perimeter walls and, to the greatest extent possible, the post-fire interior layout. Where necessary, targeted interventions have been made to improve the functionality of individual operations.

A new thermally separated structure with a glazed façade is inserted into the existing masonry. This intervention does not compromise the historic fabric and allows the preservation of original plasters, frescoes, and other historical layers.

The castle's original roof has been replaced by the inserted structure, which is covered by a perforated metal cladding. This new envelope reinterprets the volume and profile of the historic mansard roof in a contemporary way.

All architectural interventions follow the logic of axial symmetry, which stems from the castle's layout as well as the surrounding landscape composition. This symmetry is further emphasized by the entrance to the underground levels, which leads beneath the surface of the fountain in front of the castle.

Technické informace

A steel structure is inserted into the castle’s masonry. It is thermally separated, allowing for improved temperature regulation within the interior living spaces. The envelope of this structure is made of glass.

The roof is composed of perforated metal sheeting, installed on a steel truss structure.
