Idea projektu

The idea behind this project was to create so called "museum of emotion" - building which will be inducing certain emotion. In this case emotions of mountain journey - interest, fear, delight.
The next goal was to explore idea of mountain shelter in primary for form - simple barn for shepherds without commercial part - so common nowadays.

Popis projektu

First aspect of project was contrast between interior and exterior of shelter. Exterior had to look dangerous and disturbing like mountains sometimes could. But interior need to be safe, full of people, maybe not the most comfortable but safe.

Walk through interior was planned as reflection of journey through mountain. I tried to create floors which induce fear, hope, interest etc. The ground floor is the aforementioned barn. Wooden and stone pillars support the upper floors, while unglazed window openings let in some light, but they only reveal a scant part of the surrounding panorama. The interior is empty, the division into rooms has been abandoned in order to return to the aforementioned original idea of the shelter. The hall will be crowded, tourists will spread their mats, blankets, sleeping bags everywhere, perhaps hang hammocks on the protruding wooden structures. The crowd will give the impression of discomfort, but also a certain familiarity. And the more abundantly lit staircase will encourage you to continue exploring, just as the effort and discomfort of mountain hiking will clash with the promise of beautiful views and adventure.

The concrete, cold basement is meant to symbolize anxiety and fear, interwoven at the same time with the need to continue the journey. This is emphasized by the slope of the floor (5%) towards the larger window openings. A drop of more than 2% on the surface on which one walks causes discomfort and a feeling of sliding.

The attic, wooden, warm, divided into a common space and separate rooms, symbolizes the fulfillment and joy that accompany a mountain hike - overcoming fear and the joy of continuing the hike. This is emphasized by the stairs located there leading to the balcony, from which a wide view of the mountains opens - a view that the other floors did not have.

Technické informace

This project was very conceptual. I didn't think to much about technical solutions for construction besides the most basic. Concrete pillars are foundation for building they are allowing to elevate main floors above slope. Higher part of building is placed on main concrete walls, which turn into wooden at attic floor.
