The modern center of ethnic culture and art in the city of Makhachkala is designed to preserve cultural identity and transfer traditional techniques of handicrafts and art to the next generation.The Republic of Dagestan, located in Russia, is a unique cultural and natural area that many lovers of tourism and recreation are beginning to discover more and more every year. The main city of the region is Makhachkala, which is known for its magnificent beaches, centuries-old history and various attractions. In addition, the city is actively developing infrastructure for tourism, gaining momentum by 2024. Last year alone, Dagestan received more than a million tourists [1]. In this regard, Makhachkala will be an ideal place for those looking for new experiences and unforgettable adventures. Most tourists enjoy the mountain and forest landscapes, visit museums, caves, historical sites and get acquainted with the local population and their culture [2]. However, it is worth noting the lack of public and cultural spaces that are necessary to preserve unique types of crafts, as well as to enrich the culture of this republic. I was born and lived in Makhachkala for 15 years, and therefore, based on personal experience, I can say that the younger generation needs to know more about their culture and art. I decided to connect my life with architecture only after moving to Moscow. In my hometown, there were no places where I could discover something new and understand in which direction I wanted to move. I believe that any cultural and educational institutions can become a compass and a starting point in the lives of young guys and girls who have creative potential. Many of my peers are engaged in various types of national crafts, such as [3]: tailoring, gold embroidery and pottery, making jewelry and decorative weapons from precious metals and stones. But young artists and craftsmen have nowhere to exhibit, there are no free sites and opportunities to take the first step to develop a personal brand and attract an audience. Due to the high influx of tourists over the past 2 years, I decided to combine the two main functions in one common space.
The construction of exhibition centers in Makhachkala is of great importance for the city, as it will create public spaces where residents can spend their free time and enrich their knowledge. This will contribute to the development of the city's cultural life and attract tourists, which can stimulate the economic growth of the region. In addition, this can become a place where the historical and cultural heritage of the region will be preserved, and will also give young talents from all over the Republic an opportunity to exhibit, which is important for preserving cultural identity.
The modern center of ethnic culture and art is a complex and multifunctional from a technological point of view. This can be explained by the fact that in this case I decided not to limit myself to simple museum spaces, and therefore expanded the range of functions for this complex. The center combines: park and recreational areas with landscaping, which include playgrounds and quiet recreation areas, terraces, leisure and social spaces, commercial premises, exhibition and museum spaces, areas for advertising and sales of goods by individuals, administration, catering and other various service premises [15-19].
The entire complex is divided into two parts:
- the main building with closed exhibitions
- Greek courtyards for open expositions
The main building of the center has different functional divisions by floors. The building can be entered through two main entrances. However, the central entrance is located in the courtyard with a garden, from the side of the main facade. Through it we enter a spacious hall with an atrium. The second entrance to the center is the eastern one and through it you can get to the open-air exhibitions. Here visitors can see a network of open and closed courtyards with glass galleries, terraces and balconies. Some of these spaces are hidden under light textile awnings. I decided to create as many shaded areas as possible so that visitors could spend a long time outdoors in hot weather without harming their health. It is worth noting that the exhibitions alternate with small “oases”. These are green spaces with tall shady trees, benches and artificial ponds, an amphitheater and areas for performance and installations. The main building communicates with the open exhibition spaces through a room for permanent exhibition and sculpture. On the 1st level of the building there are two buffets and stairs leading to the second floor to open terraces overlooking the sea. From the main hall you can get to the permanent exhibition hall or to the exhibition of local artists, where you can buy art objects. Two glass elevators and a main staircase between them lead to the 2nd and 3rd floors. It is worth noting that both elevators can be used as freight elevators and go down to the basement. At this level, two more elevators are installed, which are only freight elevators and access to them is permitted only to the center's personnel. In conjunction with the buffets there is a souvenir shop and a bookstore with a kiosk. The staff rooms with showers and toilets are separated by a service corridor with an exit to the common hall. The exhibits reception is also located on the 1st level and communicates with the exhibition halls, but all the technical rooms are located in the basement, as is the collection center with an inventory warehouse. The second level is occupied by temporary exhibition halls, exhibition spaces dedicated to painting, national clothing and jewelry. It was decided to leave these rooms within the main building to ensure their safety. Most of the halls have access to terraces with or without canopies, from where you can see the park area and the People's Alley. There is also a media room, where films and animations are projected onto all surfaces using stereo effects.
The third level is divided into two zones:
- the center's administration
- a public library with terraces and coworking
There are toilets for visitors and the center's administration. The administration area is separated by a glass corridor with several exits to the stairs and elevators. There is also a recreation area, a conference room and a meeting room for the center's staff. The director's and his deputy's office, archives, HR department, accounting and office are located here.
1.5 Accessibility of the building for people with limited mobility
The modern center of ethnic culture and art is being developed taking into account the needs of people with disabilities, the disabled and other people with limited mobility. The building uses architectural and planning solutions that ensure accessibility for everyone.
The entrance and exit to the building is from ground level, which will not create obstacles for movement[20].
- the surfaces of the entrance platforms and vestibules are covered with hard non-slip materials, preventing slipping.
For safe movement and possible unimpeded evacuation, the project provides the following design solutions:
- the width of the flights of stairs is 1.35 m;
- the tread depth is 0.3 m, the height of the risers is 0.15 m;
- the stairs are designed with two flights with a slope of 1:2, equipped with handrails;
- the width of the doors in the corridors is 1.5 m;
- the doors on the routes of movement and evacuation provide for the passage of a wheelchair: - width more than 0.9 and 1.2 m;
- the width of the corridors in the buildings varies from 3.3 m to 2 m;
- the buildings are equipped with passenger and freight elevators with dimensions of 2.1 m by 1.6 m, with a door width of 0.9 m.
- the building has individual toilets for the disabled
When organizing the territory, the following is provided:
- organization of parking spaces for cars of people with limited mobility, with
The structural scheme of the buildings is combined: a system with load-bearing columns and load-bearing walls of stairwells, elevator shafts and external walls.
The columns are made of monolithic reinforced concrete with a finish of cement-sand plaster on a metal plaster mesh. The columns have a square section of 300x300 mm with a step of 6 m.
Floor height: 4.2 m
The load-bearing walls are provided as reinforced concrete, monolithic, 200 mm thick.
External load-bearing meshes are 300 mm thick due to insulation 100 mm thick.
A monolithic beam-free reinforced concrete floor with a thickness of 200 mm is used.
The exit to the roof is carried out from the superstructures of the stairwells. Ventilation shafts and smoke ventilation equipment are also located on the roof - roof fans for pressurizing air in the elevator shafts.
The Center has type L1 staircases with natural lighting through glazed openings in the external walls on each floor, as well as internal open staircases. In the main hall opposite the entrance there is an internal open staircase, which also serves for evacuation. Staircase flights and landings are monolithic reinforced concrete, riser height is 150 mm, tread width is 300 mm.
The main hall has 2 passenger lifts with a lifting capacity of 630 kg.
The partitions are made of foam blocks 140 mm thick. In the toilets there are partitions made of foam blocks, plastered with cement-sand mortar under the facing of wall ceramic tiles.
The floors in the toilets, as well as the buffet rooms are made of ceramic tiles with waterproofing. In the main hall and in all exhibition rooms the floors are laid with porcelain tiles. External doors - swing single-leaf and double-leaf insulated, aluminum, filled with double-chamber glass. All adopted space-planning and design solutions comply with the requirements of SP 118.13330.2022.
