To design a sustainable, climate-responsive, and cost-effective school campus in Zambia using local materials and passive design strategies, creating a safe and comfortable learning environment for students and teachers.

The conceptual design of the secondary school in rural Zambia focuses on creating a simple, sustainable, and climate-responsive educational environment adapted to local conditions. The project integrates natural ventilation, daylighting, and passive cooling through the strategic use of open facades, perforated brick walls, and shaded circulation paths.

The buildings are oriented according to the sun’s path to reduce heat gain, and a rainwater harvesting system is incorporated into the roof structure to provide non-potable water for irrigation and sanitation. Locally sourced materials, such as rammed earth and compressed blocks, are used to enhance affordability and sustainability.

The school includes classrooms, workshops, and a central courtyard, creating a flexible and community-oriented layout that supports interaction and outdoor learning. Overall, the design offers a low-cost, durable, and energy-efficient solution to improve educational infrastructure in underserved rural areas.
