Inspired by the Red River—flowing near the project site—we envisioned a symbolic stream within the design, serving as both a reflection and a continuation of this iconic river of Northern Vietnam.
We also incorporated traditional Hán-Nôm characters—'Human' (Nhân), 'Heaven' (Thiên), and 'Earth' (Thổ)—as a foundation for shaping the project's form, circulation, and spatial organization.
For the Vietnamese people, the river, the sky, and the land are timeless symbols, deeply interconnected. We believe that without these essential elements, the development of our communities and culture would not have been possible.
The project has been developed with a forward-looking vision, aiming to serve future needs as Vietnam continues its rapid development. It is located within the planned HaBiotech High-Quality Biotechnology Zone. We have proposed several design strategies to take advantage of the nearby artificial lake, while orienting the building to avoid the harsh East–West sun exposure. Functional zones that benefit from scenic views have been positioned facing the lake, integrating landscape features and maximizing the project's connection to its natural surroundings.
At the main entrance, a covered drop-off area has been designed to accommodate important events and visiting delegations. Vehicles can drop guests directly at the entrance and then proceed down to the underground parking.
Inside the main lobby, circulation is clearly organized: turning left leads to the administrative offices, while turning right leads to meeting rooms and the main auditorium. This separation ensures that different functions do not interfere with one another.
To access the laboratory area, one must pass through the office zone, as this is a restricted area requiring security clearance and permission—access is granted only to staff members or those with authorization from the director.
Since the project primarily serves the center’s research and office staff, the cafeteria has been strategically placed between the office block, laboratory, and technical center to ensure convenience and accessibility for all.
Landscaping features such as fountains and green spaces have also been incorporated to promote natural ventilation and a pleasant atmosphere. In addition, a dedicated sports area has been designed to improve the well-being of staff.
The design fully meets safety standards, including fire truck access roads and dedicated emergency escape stairs on every floor of each functional block, ensuring fire protection and evacuation compliance
The building is constructed using reinforced concrete, with additional structural elements made from steel encased in wood to support the ETFE membrane roof system. Double-layer low-E glass is used to reduce solar heat gain and improve energy efficiency.
We have utilized 250mm and 140mm thick brick walls, and column dimensions vary depending on the zone—ranging from 450mm x 450mm to 1200mm x 1200mm. Each floor slab has a thickness of 500mm and is coated with heat-reflective paint to enhance thermal insulation
