«The Loop of Time» Bridge

Alina Alikeeva, Igor Lee

Idea projektu

Sometimes you don't have to fly to distant stars to discover other worlds. These worlds can be close by. The concept of the bicycle-pedestrian bridge is based on the theoretical model of the “Morris-Thorne Wormhole” - a tunnel that allows to move in time and space. The associative series of the plastic composition of the bridge gives birth in the memory of the trained viewer to the cycles of compression and expansion of the Universe, the curvature of space-time, cosmic strings.

Popis projektu

The bridge has two one-way pedestrian lanes and one two-way lane for bicycles and electric scooters, located between them on the lower level, which is justified by the different speed of travel on these lanes. The constructive solution of the bridge is intended to demonstrate the level of modern technology, as well as to give the bridge a futuristic character emphasized by its name. The diagonal location of the bridge, which has a span of 150 meters, over the quarry is determined by the road and path network of this section of the park and gives it additional dynamism. It also provides a view of the surrounding landscape.

Technické informace

Two steel pylons 35 meters high, having the shape of an ellipse-shaped ring, located on the opposite banks of the quarry and bearing the entire load of the cable-stayed system, and a spatial truss wrapping around the bridge seem to draw the traveler into a mysterious journey in space-time. Thus the bridge acquires the character of a science fiction attraction. The structural pitch of the bridge elements is 5M. The arrangement of cables is mixed - the scheme “harp” and “fan”. One of the distinctive features of the construction solution is the staircase attached to the cable-stays, which creates an impression of weightlessness and emphasizes the architectural appearance of the bridge.
