Idea projektu

This project addresses the current inaccessibility of student architectural models at the Department of Architecture, KNUST, which are stored in department offices and largely hidden from public view. To promote wider appreciation of student creativity and innovation, the design proposes a modular exhibition structure inspired by the biomimicry of the grasshopper. The intervention seeks to evoke a sense of Mindful Refuge for a space of tranquility, protection, and introspection—while harmonizing with light and its surroundings. The goal is to create an engaging, emotionally resonant environment that makes student work visible and celebrated beyond the department.

Popis projektu

The design is to be a modular structure that allows for easy assembly, disassembly, and potential relocation to various settings. In order to ensure that the construction mixes in nicely with its site, it will integrate natural light and react contextually to its surroundings. Additionally, the interior will be strategically lit and colored to evoke the feeling of Mindful Refuge, fostering a serene, introspective, and subtly stimulating environment.

Technické informace

The design is entirely made of glulam timber, which was chosen for its structural strength, durability, and aesthetic warmth. The window screens are made of prismatic glass, which diffuses natural light and enhances the interior mood while retaining privacy and energy efficiency. The design's flexibility is backed by foldable wooden pavers, which allow for flexible arrangement, easy transit, and installation over many sites. All components are designed with precise joinery to provide stability, reusability, and seamless integration.
