Idea projektu

Salon is not merely a room—it is a way of being together. This project begins with a fundamental question: How can we reimagine shared space in a world increasingly shaped by solitude, fragmentation, and disconnection? In response, the project reclaims the hall (salon) as a spatial and social organism—alive, adaptable, and deeply human.

Rooted in the timeless traditions of gathering—whether in the ancient Greek agora, the Middle Eastern divanhane, or the 20th-century literary salon—the hall has always been more than shelter. It is a medium through which collective memory is preserved, identities are negotiated, and relationships are continuously formed and re-formed. Today, we revisit this typology not as a nostalgic return, but as a forward-looking proposal: the salon as an open, modular, and evolving space for encounter.

This project envisions the salon as a porous threshold between private and public, stillness and activity, introspection and interaction. It is a space where transformation happens—not only of physical configurations, but of people and communities. Every conversation that unfolds, every silence that is shared, every function that emerges contributes to the hall’s continuous reinvention.

In essence, the salon becomes a practice of cohabitation, care, and creation. It is where we gather not only to be together, but to become together. As such, this project offers a spatial response to one of today’s most urgent social needs: rebuilding the conditions for meaningful, collective presence.

Popis projektu

The project consists of modular, scalable units designed to form multifunctional communal spaces. These modules can be assembled in various configurations—supporting functions such as living, working, learning, cooking, resting, or socializing. The design adapts to both rural and urban environments, including underused rooftops, dense urban blocks, and natural settings.

At its core, the project imagines the hall as a process, not a static structure. It becomes an adaptable “urban living room” that changes throughout the day—accommodating solitude, collaboration, celebration, or healing. Its form supports transformation and transition, responding to both immediate communal needs and long-term spatial evolution. The programmatic flexibility ensures relevance in both everyday use and post-crisis situations (e.g., temporary housing, healthcare stations, etc.).

Technické informace

The project uses prefabricated modules produced with locally sourced, sustainable materials to reduce environmental impact and support circular economies. Each module is lightweight, easily transportable, and quick to assemble or dismantle. Modular combinations allow spatial flexibility and scalability based on user needs.

The material palette includes laminated wood or composite panels, mineral wool insulation systems (e.g., Baumit ECO Plus, StarSystem Mineral), breathable façade coatings (e.g., Baumit GranoporTop), and moisture control layers to maintain healthy interior environments. Roof structures include wood beams and multi-layer insulation, topped with green roofs or photovoltaic panels that support bioclimatic strategies.

The design integrates biophilic principles: green courtyards, natural shading, vertical gardens, and passive ventilation enhance thermal comfort and support biodiversity. Functional spaces—such as communal kitchens, laundries, gardens, and co-working areas—create social infrastructure that encourages participation and self-organization.

This hall is not just a building; it is an open system—designed to transform with the users, adapt to context, and enable collective practices of living, learning, and belonging.
