Idea projektu

The restoration and spatial development of Zahrádky Castle aim to preserve its historical architecture while reimagining its interiors through a modern, sustainable lens. The central idea is to establish a dialogue between the castle’s rich heritage and a contemporary, human-centred design, promoting ecological innovation and community engagement. The project introduces a three-story hydroponic garden as an educational and ecological centrepiece, enhancing year-round productivity with glass roofing and artificial lighting. This initiative seeks to balance heritage preservation with forward-thinking solutions, transforming the castle into a vibrant hub for learning, wellness, and cultural activities. The Orangery and Farmhouse are re-envisioned as multifunctional spaces—respectively, a cultural gathering area and a gastronomy showcase—integrating natural materials like wood and greenery to foster a warm, modern atmosphere while honouring the site’s historical context.

Popis projektu

The project solution for Zahrádky Castle encompasses a comprehensive redesign of its interior spaces across multiple buildings. The central hydroponic garden serves as an educational and green retreat, fostering mental wellness and ecological awareness, with bridges linking the wings for seamless navigation. The Orangery is transformed into a multifunctional cultural space, featuring a circular stage for concerts and meetings, a lobby, and a coffee room, all designed for smooth guest movement and acoustic excellence. The Farmhouse evolves into a hospitality and exhibition hub, including a restaurant, kitchen, office, café, and exhibition areas, with a central courtyard escalator enhancing accessibility and circulation. The design integrates natural wood textures, polished concrete, and greenery, creating open, light-filled environments that balance historical preservation with modern sustainability, offering a dynamic space for students, visitors, and the community.

Technické informace

The technical specifications of Zahrádky Castle’s restoration include innovative features tailored to its new functions. The hydroponic garden features a glass roof to maximize daylight for plant growth, supplemented by artificial lighting to ensure year-round productivity, adapting to the Czech Republic’s variable climate. Bridges on the third floor connect the original building wings, providing panoramic views and fluid movement, constructed with materials that complement the historic structure. The Orangery’s central circular stage, seating up to 50 guests, is acoustically enhanced with wood ceilings, while its lobby and coffee room are accessible via separate entrances for efficient flow. The Farmhouse includes an open-air escalator in the central courtyard for accessibility, with a café beneath offering indoor and outdoor seating, utilizing a mix of concrete, wood, and greenery. All designs maintain the buildings’ historical character while meeting modern spatial and functional requirements.
