The central design idea revolves around the metaphor of organic growth and openness. Drawing inspiration from natural forms, the structure features curvilinear arches clad in warm-toned laminated timber and supported by lightweight steel members. These arches not only define the spatial experience but also establish a visual rhythm that enhances user orientation and aesthetic appeal.
A key feature of the design is the innovative roofing system, which uses ETFE membranes and polycarbonate sheets to allow ample natural daylight, reduce energy consumption, and create a play of light and shadow across interior volumes.
Situated within an urban setting, the convention centre is envisioned as a dynamic space where architecture harmonizes with the natural environment. The design celebrates organic fluidity through its curvilinear arches and biomorphic forms, offering an iconic visual identity while maintaining a human-centric spatial approach.
The arches are clad in warm-toned laminated timber, potentially Glulam, creating an organic yet structural rhythm across the space. These are supported by slender steel members that blend strength and elegance, achieving both structural integrity and aesthetic lightness.
The roofing system incorporates translucent ETFE and polycarbonate elements interspersed with glass, allowing a dynamic interplay of daylight and shadow, enhancing the spatial experience and reducing reliance on artificial lighting
The Convention Centre is designed using a steel frame structural system with I-sections as per IS 800 standards, supported on reinforced concrete pad footings and grade slabs. The roofing system consists of lightweight steel trusses and space frames, integrated with ETFE membranes, polycarbonate sheets, and glass to optimize daylight penetration and reduce energy consumption. The wall construction includes 100mm dense AAC blockwork with 50mm thick glass fiber insulation and 13mm gypsum board lining for thermal and acoustic performance. Connection details incorporate bolted joints, base plates with anchor bolts, and stiffener plates for enhanced stability. Flooring materials are specified with anti-skid finishes and RCC slabs reinforced with 18mm dia rods and slab mesh. The green roof system includes LiveRoof modules with engineered soil, drainage layers, root barriers, and thermal insulation. Mechanical systems feature HVAC for enclosed areas, while lighting design relies on a combination of natural light and energy-efficient LED fixtures. Rainwater harvesting, an on-site sewage treatment plant (STP), and permeable paving systems support water management and sustainability. Fire safety is ensured through fire-rated materials, dedicated exits, and vertical circulation cores designed in compliance with NBC standards
