Media library as a Home away from Home

Idea projektu

This project is a "third space" for the people of Gliwice - most spaces in the city for people to spend time in are dedicated to students of the University. The idea was to create a place for inhabitants to follow their interests, study, relax and meet. Having thoroughly researched the cultural history of the city, as well as many papers and books, and even condoning interviews with users of libraries and community centres, I created a space that should cater to everyone's needs, while also perfectly fitting the city's cultural tissue.

Every solution in the project is justified - after thorough research and analysis, every aspect of a fully functional public space has been implemented well. From parkings, through service support, to the proper functions - this building has everything thought well through. There have been many areas designed: a gallery, a cafe, a meeting space, gaming room, children's playroom, a quiet room, an auditorium, classes and workshops rooms, a media library, cinema rooms, a music studio, library, quiet work rooms, a functional green roof and some others. It can be divided into four ideological spaces - inspiration, education, performative and social. Every user has different needs, and the ideas implemented cater to those of every single visitor.

Technické informace

The construction is very regular, modular; it consists of both walls and pillars. It is made mostly of concrete and reinforced concrete. The lower floors are covered with a structural glass wall, while the upper ones are hidden behind a ventilated wall made of aluminum panels, which can rotate depending on the sunlight direction. The construction of stairs, foundations, ceilings and walls has been thoroughly thought through and consulted with specialists, being safe and realistic solutions. Also the fire protection aspect is done well - the building meets the national requirements for fire safety.
