PROPOSED UNIVERSITY GUEST HOUSE

Idea projektu

Good day, I am happy to share my Experience designing this Guest house as my Msc 1 first semester project. This project represents a culmination of all I learnt during the course of this semester as it brings together various elements of all the courses we had.
The project says to design a guest house on the campus grounds which could accommodate visitors through a private-public partnership between the school and an organisation. I took my time and did a lot of research before taking on the design of this project and one concept that stuck with me during the course of the semester was that as architects, we do not have to use traditional construction methods but always try to innovate around various new techniques available to us. We were taught various methods of construction in one of our courses and prefabrication and modular construction stuck with me because of the speed and quality control measures it brings to the construction process. In this design I decided to combine the traditional method of construction for the ground floor and the sides with modular construction for the room units in the middle thereby assuring the stability of the building but also increasing the speed of construction. This design incorporates prefabrication in that all room units for both the standard rooms which are on the first floor and the deluxe rooms on the second floor will be made in the factory and installed in place on site.
This design is an attempt to change the narrative that prefabricated and modular buildings has to look boring and it gave me the opportunity to express myself and my thought process as an architect.

The proposed project is for my university campus needs to cater for the needs of visitors to the school. The land area is 5573.355 square meters.

Technické informace

The main idea behind this design has to do with it's construction process which combines the traditional frame structural method of construction with modular-prefabrication of the room units which can be produced in a factory and installed on site.
