Idea projektu

The project Oasis Junction is a visionary multimodal transportation hub planned for Uttara Dasherkandi, Dhaka, designed to address the city’s rapidly growing transportation challenges caused by population explosion and uncoordinated urban development. The project aims to integrate Mass Rapid Transit, Bus Rapid Transit, and Light Rail Transit into a single hub to ease traffic congestion, improve commuter connectivity, and promote sustainable urban mobility. It will also restore natural elements such as the Begunbari Canal, enhancing environmental sustainability and contributing to socio-economic development in the surrounding neighborhoods. By combining innovative technology, functional architectural design, and ecological restoration, Oasis Junction strives to create a modern, efficient, and user-friendly transport hub that supports Dhaka’s vision of becoming a sustainable mega-city with a well-organized public transport system.

Popis projektu

The project consists of the following parts. The main area covers a 29-acre site in Uttara Dasherkandi, Dhaka, strategically located to serve as a key node connecting expanding urban areas including Aftabnagar, Dhaka North, and Narayanganj. The project aims to develop a comprehensive multimodal transportation hub integrating three primary transit systems: the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT-5 South), Bus Rapid Transit (BRT Line 7), and Light Rail Transit (LRT) encircling the city. This integration will facilitate smooth and efficient passenger transfers between modes, reduce traffic congestion, and encourage the use of public transport over private vehicles.

In addition to transportation functions, the project scope includes ecological restoration of the Begunbari Canal, improving environmental conditions and enhancing community recreational spaces. The hub will incorporate smart technologies for real-time transit management and accessibility features to ensure inclusivity. Overall, the project addresses urban mobility, environmental sustainability, and socio-economic benefits, aiming to transform Dhaka’s transport infrastructure and support its future growth.

Technické informace

The project involves the development of a multimodal transportation hub spanning approximately 29 acres in Uttara Dasherkandi, Dhaka. It integrates three main transit systems: the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT-5 South line), Bus Rapid Transit (BRT Line 7), and Light Rail Transit (LRT) encircling the city.

Key technical specifications include:

Site Area: 29 acres, accommodating transit terminals, passenger waiting areas, commercial zones, and green public spaces.

Transit Infrastructure: Platforms and terminals designed to support high passenger capacity for MRT, BRT, and LRT, ensuring smooth interchanges with minimum transfer time.

Sheltered Connectivity: An extensive network of covered walkways and an underground pedestrian underpass connecting all transit buildings and stations, including the LRT station opposite the main road. The underpass is designed for weather protection and doubles as a public exhibition space.

Structural Design: The hub employs cost-effective, durable construction methods with a focus on structural safety, seismic resistance, and ease of maintenance.

Environmental Features: Restoration of the Begunbari Canal with integrated water management systems to support stormwater flow and improve local ecology.

Smart Technologies: Implementation of real-time transit management systems, smart ticketing solutions, and inclusive accessibility features for persons with disabilities.

Traffic Management: Design includes provisions for smooth traffic flow for buses, metro rail, light rail, motorized and non-motorized vehicles, and pedestrian movement without conflict.

Sustainability Measures: Use of eco-friendly materials, energy-efficient lighting, and ventilation systems to reduce the hub’s carbon footprint.

These specifications ensure the hub will serve as a functional, safe, and sustainable center for urban transit, meeting the demands of Dhaka’s growing population and future urban expansion.
