The idea is to develop 100 sqm self-shaded enclosure in recreational park next a sport area and integrating a second skin to enhance its thermal efficiency and be part of its programs as well. A mesh skin inspired by condensation effect in plants, is developed to harvest dew from humid air and use it for misting program between the spaces, in the open area. The masses have been developed in fragmented way to maximize the user experience and apply the misting experience in the area between the spaces.
The project started with a detailed research about thermoregulation of plants and how they can adapt to the weather conditions and maintain their body temperature regulated. After that, we were asked to develop a 100 sqm unit in recreational park in Dubai, considering the research we did before. The target was to see how architecture could be influenced by plants and how such thermoregulation systems could be integrated within the buildings.
Typical structure grid is used to support the main masses and steel frame structure is used to attach the masses together and hold the mesh skin on top.
