The BECA Malacca Trishaw Tourism Center is envisioned as a cultural and tourism hub that celebrates the rich heritage of Malacca through the symbolic and nostalgic presence of the trishaw. Inspired by this iconic mode of transport, the center is designed to serve as a welcoming gateway for visitors exploring the historical city. It aims to enhance the tourism experience by fusing traditional elements with modern, sustainable design, making it not only a functional facility but also a meaningful cultural destination that reflects the identity and spirit of Malacca.
The center offers a multifunctional space that includes ticketing counters, shaded waiting areas, and educational exhibits about the history and significance of trishaws in Malacca. Beyond serving as a point of transit, it is designed to be an engaging destination in its own right. The architecture incorporates Peranakan-inspired motifs, intricate tilework, and traditional wooden textures, offering visitors a culturally immersive experience. The center also promotes community engagement by hosting local artisans and performers, supporting local businesses and enhancing the vibrancy of the area. Additionally, interactive features such as a mobile app guide are introduced to provide tourists with a more personalized and enjoyable way to explore the city via trishaw rides.
The BECA Center adopts sustainable design practices, using eco-friendly materials, energy-efficient systems, and natural ventilation through its open-air concept. To further reduce its environmental impact, green roofs and a rainwater harvesting system are integrated into the design, aligning with broader goals of ecological awareness and sustainability. The spatial planning is intentionally flexible to accommodate both functional needs and cultural programming. The use of vibrant colors and playful architectural forms not only makes the structure visually attractive but also ensures it becomes a recognizable landmark within Malacca’s urban and tourism landscape.
