Fore-sketch design of the School Territory ‘Forest and Concrete Rocks’

Vadim Spirenkov

Idea projektu

This project reimagines the schoolyard as an architectural and ecological landscape — a place where learning, play, and nature intertwine. The concept, titled “Forest and Concrete Cliffs”, merges heavy, brutalist forms with greenery to create a unique spatial experience for students. The goal is to encourage interaction with both built and natural environments, fostering curiosity, creativity, and well-being.

Popis projektu

The site spans 1 hectare (100×100 meters) and is bordered by a living hedge that provides a soft, eco-friendly boundary. The architectural layout is based on deconstructed concrete parallelepipeds, forming ground-level corridors and multifunctional rooms such as coworking spaces, utility areas, and children’s play zones.

One of the key features is a standalone glass greenhouse, which connects the indoor environment with vegetable beds and outdoor pathways. From the rooftop level — formed by the walkable surfaces of the concrete volumes — users can descend into the greenhouse, strengthening the connection between vertical and horizontal circulation.

The rooftops serve as elevated green promenades, planted with trees to create the feel of a forest canopy above a brutalist foundation. Other functional areas include:
• Atrium Square — for school-wide gatherings and events.
• Sunken Playground — a hybrid indoor-outdoor space that allows year-round use.
• Sports Stadium — equipped with a dedicated viewing platform for spectators.

This compositional and functional approach turns the schoolyard into a vertical park and a dynamic public space.
