Idea projektu

The design of the fire station is based on the separation of the three main functions: the apparatus, the living quarters, and the administration wing. All three functions are located on the ground floor with easy access from all sides.
A private courtyard between the living quarters and the garage provides space for fire truck maneuvering but also a space for exercise or relax and further divides the quiet living quarters from the active garage space.
The horizontal character of the building is broken up by a monumental tower at the entrance of the fire station.

Popis projektu

The design for the fire station has been shaped by three integrated ideas.
First is the strategically positioned apparatus at the corner of the property. This exposes the space to two streets thus allowing for two access routes; a main exit directed the main road in case of the emergency and an entrance from the side road for trucks that are returning from their duty.

Then, is the separation of the living quarters and the administration wing, by taking out an atrium behind the apparatus. This separation allows for privacy for all parties involved. The garage as a space of the main importance is located in-between these two spaces, thus allowing for quick access in case of emergency.

Finally, the signature of the fire station. To reference back to the watch towers from old fire stations, the fire hose drying shaft radiates a similar character. It also creates a point of symmetry in the design as seen by visitors and passers-by from the main road and a point of orientation, where the main entrance finds its place.

Technické informace

The structure of the building consists of Porotherm blocks used for load bearing walls. The large apparatus space is bridged by trusses made out of S235 steel H-cross section profiles. Where needed, extra support is secured via concrete beams and columns. As flooring, standard cast-in concrete floor slabs are used. For partition walls, aerated concrete blocks are used.

For the façade systems, Mosa stone cladding in grey terra version is proposed for the walls, ordered in a horizontal pattern. The façade of the tower is cladded with Alucobond 534 C34 in anodized black color to highlight the vertical character of the tower.
