Idea projektu

We are delighted to present our innovative design for the stroke rehabilitation center in Jaffna, Sri Lanka, named "Nirwana," which is inspired by the Buddhist path of enlightenment. Our aim is to create a healing environment that caters to the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of patients and reflects the unique culture and natural beauty of the city.

Our design takes into account the humid tropical climate of the region and incorporates passive cooling techniques and outdoor spaces that promote a healthy and comfortable environment for patients. Our team has also implemented a patient-centered approach, providing specialized equipment for physical therapy, speech therapy, and occupational therapy, all operated by skilled professionals who prioritize patients' emotional support and social interaction.

To expedite the construction process, we have utilized 3D printing technology, which offers several benefits such as cost-effectiveness and efficiency. We believe that this advanced technology will facilitate the construction of the center in a shorter timeframe, which is particularly valuable in the context of post-war reconstruction.

Popis projektu

We have also incorporated culturally appropriate design elements into the stroke rehabilitation center, which reflect the values and traditions of the community. We believe that this approach will promote a sense of familiarity and comfort among patients, which is essential for their recovery.

In addition, we propose to partner with the Sri Lankan army to assist in the construction of the rehabilitation center. This collaboration will not only increase the efficiency of the construction process but will also promote a sense of unity and healing between the community and the army, following years of civil conflict.

We have also integrated the Jaffna Fortress into our design, which provides a sense of safety and security for patients during their rehabilitation. This historic structure is a symbol of resilience and strength and will inspire patients to persevere in their recovery journey.

Technické informace

One of our key design strategies is to group patients with similar cultural backgrounds together in the three Stroke Survival Spaces (SSS). We believe that this cultural familiarity will promote a sense of community and comfort among patients during their rehabilitation. We have also designed a "Cognitive Gathering Space - Outdoor" for each SSS, which provides a safe and comfortable outdoor area for patients to socialize and explore the natural beauty of the waterfront ecosystem. Patients can reconnect with familiar people from outside the center and stimulate their cognitive memories in these communal areas.

Our design for the stroke rehabilitation center, "Nirwana," offers a holistic and patient-centered approach that caters to the unique needs of the community in Jaffna, Sri Lanka. Our focus on communal spaces, culturally appropriate design elements, advanced technology, and collaboration with the Sri Lankan army provides a healing environment that promotes physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being for patients. We hope that our design can set a new standard for stroke rehabilitation centers in post-war contexts, providing a therapeutic environment that supports patient recovery and enhances their quality of life.

In conclusion, "Nirwana" is a pioneering design that reflects the values and needs of the community in Jaffna, Sri Lanka. We are proud to have designed a rehabilitation center that prioritizes patient well-being, cultural sensitivity, advanced technology, and collaboration with the Sri Lankan army. We believe that our approach can transform the field of stroke rehabilitation, offering a therapeutic environment that promotes healing and encourages patients to achieve their full potential.
