Idea projektu

A temporary social housing project on the banks of the Danube River in Vienna, providing safe and affordable housing for Ukrainian war refugees. Innovative construction techniques, communal spaces, green areas, and adaptive design ensure comfort, while its transformability allows for repurposing as a multifunctional embankment.

Popis projektu

Everyone dreams of a life without fear and violence, of the possibility to build a prosperous future. The war that has engulfed Ukraine leaves people's hearts and souls broken and devastated. People have been forced to leave their homes to escape the war. They have lost everything they held dear and valuable: their homes, loved ones and a peaceful sky above their heads. However, there is still hope in people's hearts.

Our project is a temporary social housing for refugees from Ukraine. This initiative aims to provide temporary housing for people forced to leave their homes because of the war. The main focus is on providing safe and suitably priced housing for refugees who find themselves in a difficult situation. The goal of our project is to create fast-build housing that will be the first ray of hope for people in the current situation.

The project site is located on the banks of the Danube River in Vienna, Austria. The site is 500 meters long and is located on a slope. Considering the fact that this is a temporary solution, we resort to the following:
- the use of screw piles, which are easy to install and dismantle which helps to solve the problem of building on a sloped terrain
- use of prefabricated CLT-panels with insulation of several moduls, which have a number of advantages (lightness of construction, ease of installation, environmental friendliness, fire resistance).

Also having analyzed the area and studied the needs of future residents, we offer three types of apartments: one bedroom apartment of 36m^2 for 1-2 people, two bedroom apartments of 54m^2 for 3 people, two bedroom apartments of 72m^2 for 3-4 people. In general, the project can accommodate up to 650 people.

To create a comfortable environment, we are providing five residential buildings with communal spaces on the ground floor, and open rooftop, a walking area along the water, playgrounds and sports grounds, picnic areas, as well as a public area in the center of the site, which includes an educational center, library, shops and cafes. In addition, the site as well as terraces on residential buildings are lavishly planted with greenery. Pedestrian bridges are designed for direct connection to the urban environment of Vienna. The project is also accessible for people with disabilities - ramps are located in all areas.

After the end of military actions in Ukraine, when people will be able to return to their homes, due to the fact that construction of the residential buildings can be easily dismantled, the project can be modified to meet the needs of the citizens of Vienna. The new purpose of it will be to serve as a new multifunctional embankment. We propose to leave the public area in the center of the site and all open spaces. In some parts, screw piles will be left as well as the bearing structures (pillars) of the ground floor of the buildings, which will be transformed into an open green space for recreation.

It is our sincerest aspiration that this project can provide people with a feeling of comfort and serenity during these difficult times.

Technické informace

The use of screw piles as a foundation, which allows installation and dismantling in a short time, and also allows building on uneven terrain.

Wooden pillars are used as load-bearing structure, connected to the floor slabs by a metal fastening system.

The use of modular prefabricated CLT-panels with insulation, which have a number of advantages: lightness of construction, ease of installation, environmental friendliness, fire resistance, resistance to seismic activity.
