Idea projektu

The subject of the diploma thesis is the design of the New Synagogue in Česká Lípa on U Synagogy Street. In the past, there was a large Jewish community with a school, mikvehs and a synagogue in the area, which was burned down during the Crystal Night in November 1938. Today, there is a public parking area and dilapidated buildings from the 1990s.

The dominant element of the whole building are the erected masts running to the lost in regular lines, like the reminiscence of the burned synagogue. This monument forms the center line of the entire building. The resulting volume is at a similar height of the original building according to the preserved drawing documentation. The masts themselves symbolize the victims of the Holocaust in Česká Lípa. At their tops are spotlights that symbolize the souls of the victims. The monument is complemented by two fountains with running water. The newly designed synagogue respects the position of the floor plan of the burned synagogue. The prayer house is deliberately situated below ground level in the spirit of the fulfillment of Psalm 130: 1 "From the depths of the bottomless I call to you, Lord."
