Idea projektu

The subject of the diploma thesis is an adaptive reuse of former industrial premises and its incorporation into the contemporary center of Dvůr Králové nad Labem. The historically significant area, together with the adjacent public spaces, is wasting its potential for the time being, and the whole site looks like a separate periphery of the city.

The project aims to revitalize the site by creating a new point of interest for both residents and visitors. The new point of interest will be a cultural center, which will be created by revitalizing the former Mayer‘s factory. However, it is not only the Mayer factory that needs to be transformed but also the public space around it, which has become stagnant since it took shape in the first half of the 20th century and is therefore dysfunctional from today‘s perspective.

Popis projektu

The cultural center consists of two interconnected buildings - the former printing plant and the new multifunctional hall. The former printing plant is the oldest and most valuable building on the site today. The architectural design preserves its distinctive character and incorporates the new gallery function into the building. The multi-purpose hall, with its sloped accessible roof, will be attached to the current building by a shared foyer, creating a unified complex that will complement one another. The arrangement of the two buildings gives birth to an outdoor semi-enclosed space within the block, called the Courtyard. The newly proposed facilities will be opened into this space together with the current library, thus becoming the core of the events in the renewed complex.

Technické informace

Reinforced concrete and lightweight dense concrete (e.g. Liapor) is used as the main load-bearing material. The reason behind chosen material is easy connection between vertical and the horizontal slab structures. Also with load-bearing structures out of concerete both fire safety and acoustic requirements are met.

The multifunctional hall building rises towards the south, where the one-storey building with a basement becomes a three-storey building with a basement. The sloping roof of the building serves as a summer stage with natural elevation. Access to the roof is possible via an external staircase or an internal staircase. There are 58 parking spaces in the basement.
