Idea projektu

Project Type: Airport
Project Location: Cox's Bazar

Cox’s Bazar International Airport Terminal Building

Concept:

Cox’s Bazar is the longest sea beach in the world. The concept of the airport terminal building is generated from or inspired by waves. The basic definition of a wave is that it transmits or transfers energy and information. An airport terminal is a space where passenger transfers between ground transportation and aircraft.

The form is also inspired by waves. The directional change of water waves concerning sunlight creates a soothing pattern inside the sea. This inspires the terminal building's internal space to have such ambiance and, it is brought by creating shade- shadow pattern inside the terminal due to the space truss system for sunlight.

From another side, the form is inspired by bird wings
to give the sense of flying with dynamism.

The flow of Space:

The internal space flow is made in such a way that the ambiance of waves can be felt from all the floors and spaces by the combination of solids and voids. This also creates a visual connection of one space to another.

The visual connectivity on one side helps the passenger feel the airport's rush and on the other side soothes his mind creating a shade shadow pattern that changes with the ambient light of daytime.

Popis projektu

The entry for departing passengers and the exit for arriving are at the same level with separated space zoning. This zoning repeats in pairs to give scope for future extension. The entry having lobbies with double-height space having skylight broadens the idea of the journey itself. The movement continues with the visual connection of the passenger of opposite type to feel the rush of departure and tranquility of arrival. the visual connection with inward green soothes the restfulness of the mind.

The indirect natural lighting is used in passive design to ensure sustainability that only allows northern light and helps minimize the glazing and heating effect of the heat of Cox's Bazar. The penetration of green and waterbody at the two sides also helps in passive cooling.

Technické informace

Tree column with space-truss system is used to hold the load of the building and give larger column-free space allowing more height to create the interior ambiance. Roof paneling has the pyramid structure with Northern glass panel and the rest 3 metal sheet panels to ensure Northern light penetration only.

The model is prepared in ArchiCad with the structure modeled in Rhino- Grasshopper. For rendering, twinmotion and photoshop are used.
