Idea projektu

Sigiriya is one of the most popular tourist sites in Sri Lanka. However, Sigiriya does not have a proper tourist market. This project focuses on the creation of a Tourist market for Sigiriya, according to the concept of Pinthaliya ( an ancient bowl of water for travellers)
Concept
“pintaliya"" is a traditional element which is related to the hospitality. Sinhala people are most popular to hospitality ,so they put pot of water in front of house or near the “ancient shop market” and they maintained it daily as a daily routine .the main objective of this was almsgiving and From this, ancient Sinhala people showed their kindness for all beings; from this , mutual understanding between two parties was made. Ancient day when someone saw the “mks;ad,sh"", the feeling which is about rest is born inside him ,for most of time it is under the tree or some covering, so shadow of the tree or covering gave some kind of pleasant feeling to human body. Nowadays the concept of “mks;ad,sh"" has been gone away from Sihala people , Therefore this kind of feeling is hoped to be given to my design in order to protect this concept and make a place which improve human comfort as well as human kindness. As well as in the ancient monastery the monk continued this action as an almsgiving , So someone went through the monastery he or she could drink the water for thirsty and take a rest.

The project which is given is a tourist market which is designed in Sigiriya. This tourist market reflects the sri Lankan tradition as well as sri Lankan history, for Sigiriya is the world heritage as well as arch-logical valuable area in sri lank. nowadays it is a most famous area for tourism. According to all this situation, this tourist market is design for all local and foreign people, mainly forces on foreign. from this project all the experiences which is based on sri Lankan ancient are hoped to be given to all foreign and local people with proper facilities.

Technické informace

According to master plan, there are lot of spaces which have been tried to be placed correct strength and right place. So space by space various impression can be experienced. Arcording to this master plan, All the car park (foreign and local) are put together in local car park with isolated facilities for foreign and locals. Then When someone enters to the axial path from the vehicles park area to the main entrance, the feeling about going through the Chena cultivation and then jungle can be experienced.

When take about the spatial progression, it is based on “pinthaliya” concept. because space is important than form of building,for people live in space , not form.so space by space the feeling which is based on essence of ‘’pinthaliya” can be experienced.
in ancient time, when someone saw the “pintaliya"", the feeling which is about rest is born inside him ,for most of time it is under the tree or some covering, so shadow of the tree or covering gave some kind of pleasant feeling to human body and under the shadow, people could drink original water(not dirty water) as well as people could wet their faces in order to making face comfortable.
Through spatial progression in design, all those qualities have been reflected in order to make people comfortable. So there is three zones which is given to people with above qualities.






Through those three areas, people should go and space by space the feeling of comfort is improved.at climax point people become, more comfortable.
Firstly people enter from 5.2 m higher level then third level(01) which is a information area like a museum and there are many panels which is included summarized information of sigiriya and also benchers ,then people can sit and read the panels with getting rest .then people go here and there in this level.when they go here and there ,people can see the out of scale “pintaliya" which is in ground-level clearly . then some kind of curiosity which is about ‘’what is this? ‘’, “why people drink water through this” is built inside of people, mainly inside of foreign people. Then they
are trying to find it, for foreign people like to experience new things.in this case they have to go through the site.
second, they enter to the area which is given shade by tree(02) with comfortable wind.so in there ,people can sit on rock and take a rest with wonderful scenery, for this is the only place people can experience water garden area and its’ surrounding with huge depth. This area is like a viewing deck area and this is the highest area in the site.




Next, he or she go to the water pond area (03) and in their people can wet their hand and faces from water tank.it have been located there for that reason.

From entrance to this point , there are many of ornament shops beside the path and there is only one beverage shape can be seen. And these all shops are on the area which is like a “pintaliya” under the caves.it is like following section.








From water tank area, people can see out of scale “pintaliya" again and then they directly go to the that area(04).so from it, they can drink original water, not a “kiul” water.it is a big problem in the context, for there are lot of taps and shops to drink “kiul” water but there is no place to drink pour, original water Form “mks;ad,sh”.so purpose of fulfilling water thirsty is fulfilled from “mks;ad,sh" from original water and this this is the climax point of the site and people become more combatable in this place.


This design is based on four levels, as by making level difference, more area can be used. But this area is a conservation area and it should not be damaged. Then these levels differences have been built by “H” beam structure. reason of this case, there is more heat than ground level. actually ground level also gets more heated but by trees, it is decreased. According to all these, the green roof have been put on the H beam and little trees have been planted on it.
The another reason of putting green roof is “these all shop are on the area which is like “pintaliya” under the caves. Those “pintaliya” have been made with putting brick foundation around and there is a soil inside the brick foundation like following picture. also, the “pintaliya” is put on the soil surface.
the expression which is like this can’t be given to the people without putting soil and this soil type represent acrimony look of Sigiriya
