Idea projektu

In this context of a space without a clear structure, I proposed the reorganization of Revolutionary Square and I tried to restore the function of public space (gathering, contemplation, commemorations, shows, exhibition space of different materials, multimedia area).
I imagined a square that has the ability to fix the passer in its space, (something happens there) by giving it spaces where you can join in different activities.
The proposed volume receives an intended function, it is a space that commemorates a turning moment of the recent history, a memorial opened to reveal information by generating multi-sensory experiences.

Popis projektu

Referring to the plan form, the proposed urban square has a very clear geometric contour, with hierarchical subspaces having functions that support each other.
This space is put in dialogue with the context taking specific directions, alignments, and generating particular ends of some important perspective. In the second plane, it supports certain visibilities and enhances perspectives towards the points of interest of the urban environment. It also opens the perspective to the important building around such as Carol Library, Athenaeum with its square, Kretzulescu church, and the Royal Palace.
The purposeful entombement of one part of the square highlights the facade of the Calcani Palace, while the rising volume accentuates the perspective towards it along the road of "Victory road" as well as to Kretulescu church, coming from the street.
The general assembly puts in dialogue the facade of the museum and the building of the Ministry that it passes in the subsidiary, hiding it after a geometric barrier of trees.
The amphitheater that accompanies the descent to the lower level of the square can become a place of gathering and socializing the same as in the descendants of the ancient agora, having the facade with the fountains of the Calcani Palace.
There is a special concern for the accessibility of the space supported by the volumetry of the memorial that acts like a space pivot.
Being a landmark pinned on the Victory road, it arranges the space around and also it is endowed with different directions points of perspective in the area.
The base of the tower is a lower level to unify the two parts of the square and to conform a coherent and closely related museum path related to the public space.

Technické informace

The shape and texture of the vertical volume gives a special tectonics, whitch provides a visually imposing presence, also amplified by the water mirror from its base.
Structurally, reffering to the vertical element I chosed to improve a regular frame made of pillars and metal beams, counterbalanced in the corner part, which allows the spatial flexibility. Moreover, the basement and the rest of the proposed volumetry uses rigid reinforced concrete diaphragms and a thick post-tensioned reinforced concrete slab.
The area of the luminaires is made of metallic structure with insulating panels and glass.
