Amben Merenten is a community space design based on the reading environment and community creativity. Located in Karang Tal Village of Kayangan, West Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia. An area that is still thick with culture and spiritual values makes this area has its own value and characteristic.
The name "Amben Merenten" is taken from the building concept that brings amben or a seat on the “Berugak” (traditional Sasak building) as part of the design. The word Merenten has the meaning of brothers in Sasak language, which is then represented by the attachment of space and elevation games to differentiate the activities in it. interaction and a sense of kinship become stronger so that every community has a sense of responsibility and a sense of belonging to the place.
This design concept tries to raise the value social community life society and elements of regionalism. two this aspect is then raised to be the general concept of this design. Community living live with three aspects namely observation or observe, understand or live, and interact as a the embodiment of doing. third this aspect is expected to achieve goals in the form of synergy between groups community in society.
The concept of regionalism tries too raised 3 sub-concept aspects that be considered in the design, both physical and deep the social context of society. three sub aspects these include social considerations, community spiritual value, and locality. these three aspects are expected to be the trigger appears an identity on communities around the site building design. So that sense of empathy and sense of belonging will be grow from every society.
The materials used in this design are materials that are easily found in the area around the site with various material manufacturers. As for the main structure using teak wood (Tectona grandis L.f) as the column and main beam. With the foundation using reinforced concrete point foundation.
the use of materials that tend to be light due to prolonged trauma due to the earthquake that hit Lombok in 2018. So that the surrounding community as end-users wants the use of lightweight materials. This also supports the return of the community to the old culture that used natural materials such as wood and bamboo as building materials.
This design use Breathing Facade System. Panel openings are located on two sides of the facade. The north (front) and south (back) are used to circulate air into the building.
The opening system has a principle like Nako glass. Has 1 mechanic as control of openings in all panel openings.

Combine Local Value and the Historical Value. Local value aims to build new identity with design form. The historical value of the place is an integral part of the local people.
(Local material is dominant) (Production with radius 15 kilo meters around the site)
1. Teak Wood, for Column configuration, beam, and roof structure.
2. Bamboo, for flooring, local people call it "Malak".
3. Bamboo Woven, from Local production.
4. Brick and Gravel, for yard pavement.
