Meet the building block of the future. The EcoCocon straw wall system is revolutionising construction by making the best of natural materials while ensuring healthy, comfortable, and energy-efficient living at the same time.
The main building blocks are structural timber-straw wall panels that are made to measure and can accommodate any type of building design. Thanks to special straw pressing technology, the panels achieve excellent insulation properties.
Together with interior clay plaster, an exterior airtight breather membrane, and a protective layer of fibre board, the system is Passivhaus standard certified, achieving the U-value of 0.123 W/m2K. The entire system is vapour-permeable and provides exceptional indoor comfort.
EcoCocon panels are made of 98% natural renewable materials. Making them as close to nature as possible results in high indoor air quality with no harmful substances emitted. The system is breathable – it allows the excess humidity to escape – and with no thermal bridges and airtight, it leaves no space for draughts or mould. Natural materials create a healthy indoor microclimate with even temperatures – warm in winter and cool in summer.
The system is prefabricated in a factory under rigorously controlled conditions, allowing for very high precision. This way the panels all fall perfectly into place and with no wet processes, the whole building can be assembled in very little time compared to traditional construction. With custom-made dimensions, architects have unbound creative freedom.
EcoCocon is the only building component with both Passivhaus and Cradle to Cradle certifications. It was created to have a minimal ecological footprint and to be safely returned to nature after use. The unique strengths and benefits of the system leave little reason to build any other way.

The unique modular wall system is made with a special pressing technology allowing for exceptional insulative properties. The bio-based materials it utilises create a healthy indoor microclimate free of toxic chemicals and volatile organic compounds.
EcoCocon has received the Innovation Award by the Passive House Institute.
The EcoCocon wall panels that are the core of the system, are made of straw and wood. Both materials sequester large amounts of CO2 through photosynthesis over their lifetime. This CO2 is then safely stored in the construction resulting in a highly positive climate impact. The excellent insulation that straw provides saves additional carbon through buildings’ operation.
The walls need to be vertical, not leaning. Although it is possible to achieve a round wall effect, round panels are not available. The angle of a gable roof should ideally be between 1º and 45º. During the whole construction process, the panels need to be thoroughly protected from any water or precipitation.
