Well-adjusted proposal and provide, we liked the work of the patio as a distributor, in addition the openings in the roof make a continuous space, we would have liked a better job in the exterior pavement as well as a better landscape design Also assess the possibility of changing the volume that obstructs the area between the patio and the gallery so that a better relationship is generated.
An Adaptive Reuse concept of Doc Spier's Gathering Place.
Doc Spier's Gathering Place is tucked away in the historic Hillside neighborhood of LaGrange, Georgia.
Ran as a grocery store and a sandwich shop from 1932 to 1953 by Wilbon T. Spier “Doc,” This now open-air building covered in beautiful vines and trees is maintained as a gathering place for the community by DASH.
The approach towards the existing open-air structure on site was to display the lives lived by the building and the potential it has to once again become a place which brings the community closer together.
A Trajectory where the existing rustic textures and the walls taken back by nature tells a story about what has been and the introduction of the new materials and programs represents the future of the gathering place.
As per the requirements of the project, 5 Office spaces which can be leased or rented for start-up businesses or formal meetings - with a Community Garden and a playground for children designed to encourage social gatherings are situated on the south side of the existing structure.
The indoor gathering place and the café timidly sit inside the existing structure while retaining its charm and textures to increase human engagement and allow for events to take place in any weather.
