Work description
The application of open-source CFD programs allows the researcher to have a more detailed look into the algorithms and implementation of the physical models. Thus, a new methodology for the 3D simulation of internal combustion engines was developed at LEC using the free and open OpenFOAM CFD code. To get familiar with the workflow, the intern should first apply the methodology to an already existing engine using new measurement data. Next, extension of the methodology to new geometries and engine configurations are planned. Thourough validation is neccessary throughout the work to ensure that the simulations reach the required quality level. All taken steps have to be documented and presented to the CFD team.
