Transition of Shelters

Project idea

The Project "Transition of Shelters-Architectural Design of Portable Emergency Shelters for Post Disaster" aims to provide shelter solution to victims during aftershocks within a span of 3 days. the shelter is portable and easily transported to the site through all mediums and modular construction the site labour is easy and economical and reusable.

Project description

Disasters are indeed a serious disruption of the functioning of a community or a society involving widespread human, material, economic or environmental losses and impacts, which exceeds the ability of the affected community or society to cope using its own resources. Post Disaster Effects includes loss both physically and mentally. The current opinion of many government and non-government organizations is to skip the temporary housing phase of recovery and move straight into permanent public infrastructure. A Type of temporary housing is adapted and able to arrive at the site of the disaster quickly with the principles of light, air and quality materials. The Disaster relief is done in two phases with individual shelter and then later formed into community for psychological recover.
Post disaster management is currently being done by the government, starts from relocating disaster victims to safer places and accommodate them in various shelter types around a year. But these shelters whether emergency, temporary, transitional or permanent in nature, are often made only during Post disaster. Absence of an effective pre-planning for such emergency situations so that these emergency shelters can be converted further as Transitional shelters. Therefore this project aims at designing a Portable emergency Shelter which will be transit from time to time to accommodate disaster victims and which will have common Community centres for group of shelters. This shelter is also constructed in a span of 1-2 hours with 4 peoples and also easily transported to the site by means of all transport.

Technical information

The Construction Drawing are provided with joinery details to implement at site with very basic techniques to implement. The 3 major planes of structure such as wall, roof and floor can be altered with few mechanism like car jack to lift the structure in case of rain.
