Project idea

The main purpose of my project is to reestablish traditions of town house and to reach the harmony between nature and dwelling by integrating concept of suburban homes during design process. The Architecture and forms of the new project strongly connected with the past man made environment that was formed gradually as the result of local resident's self-activity. On the other hand high rise commercial block stands out among the low rise buildings in that way bringing dynamics to the whole complex. Design of whole complex reflects the attitude towards the natural terrain. Minimizing the impact on terrain has strong influence on design. Which results in creation of vast exterior surfaces which are used as terraces in the residential block and as parking areas and open public spaces in the commercial block.

Project description

Residential complex is located between Charents and 12th streets, expanding from Nar- Dos Street to the crossroad of Charents and Sayat-Nova streets. This part of the city edges the city center and has relatively higher position that provides panoramic views towards the center and natural dominants. The area of the complex is 116 600 sqm. Low income houses occupying the most part of the territory were constructed by local residents. The spontaneous construction results in diversification of architectural environment. In that way bringing to absence of common architectural composition and criterions. Many families added extra floor area to their houses and would create alternative spatial arrangements in order to adjust to the changing family structures. Adding extra spaces around the houses filled required intervals between houses which is unacceptable for seismic countries. In some cases added extra volumes lay on each other. The most important object in the area is Vazgen Sargsyan Republican stadium built in 1935. The capacity of the stadium is 14,403 seats. But during football matches there is always traffic jams which is the result of lacking parking spaces.
