Chile

Project idea

Nowadays, it is essential to seek the construction of urban borders, recognizing the history of heritage and inheritance in our cities, in order to achieve urban consolidation, not a concentric hermeticism. The project declares two moments based on an archaeological work; The first is to discover the route of Cauicumeo, ancient and first road in the island of Chiloe, Chile, between the cities of Ancud and Castro. The second is to remove the top of the hill Bellavista to the outskirts of Ancud, where the last battle of South America against Spanish troops in the nineteenth century. From here it is sought to highlight both milestones, in a single work, capable of rescuing the past through history and submitting in form and location, and trying to inspire the future, through positioning within the region of the work.

Project description

To create the new spaces, we must evoke the first, the cave as the first space. Light and materiality must be preponderant. In this case, we will take the organic from a cave to the straight and horizontal, thinking of the ancient fortresses found within the island.

Technical information

Wood is used, an autochthonous and main element of the island, along with concrete and stone, trying to interpret the landscapes and the abandoned fortresses. It proposes an interior walk as an exterior, playing with the heights and achieving a 360 degree view and route to the whole island. It is the conquest of the horizon, the design of the future inheritance.
