Project idea

This project deals with a kitchen design for a purblind and blind person. The theoretical part describes problems, which these people struggle with, including specialized organisations helping visually handicapped people. The thesis covers search for kitchen realised in our area. It continues with elaborate specification of individual parts of a kitchen and with last trends. The practical part describes own solution for a purblind and blind person created for a concrete room. There are specified materials, fitting and technology used for that.

Project description

The main goal of work was to create a design of a kitchen unit for visually handicapped people. During regular meetings with my supervisor the original topic has changed, limited criterions was created to specify the topic for a concrete person in a real room. The result of my work is a solution not only for a blind but for a purblind person as well. For better illustration both designs are applicable for the same dispositional draft.
Throughout work was gathering and noting down valuable information from people working in different fields. Essential part of the theoretical section of work was created from information and experiences gathered. In the practical section there are reflected other kitchen particularities and criterions. Resultant visual drafts create illustration of the final result.
The solutions point out several issues, which should be avoided by every designer of a new kitchen. There are specified not only materials and fitting at affordable price but materials and fitting which is not that common. The whole design is easy to adjust for different places or for different visual imperfection. Client will define then the final budget.

Technical information

The whole work describes individual details and design possibilities including technological processing. Important points are based on available fittings and materials. All dimensions are based on ergonomic dimensions. The most important are color contrasts for the visually impaired. In the event that a blind person uses tactile points milled in the door so that he can more easily recognize how the kitchen opens. This detail is especially important for the most modern types of handles (integrated in cabinet or upper side of door).
